Appearance: Variscite is petite but strong, designed for labor as well as appearance, she is not as thin as a lapis lazuli or a pearl, but she is not as stocky as a quartz. She has short medium to dark green hair and pale green skin with blue-green eyes, her gem–a pale gem somewhere between green and blue–is located just above where her neck meets her shoulders under her chin.
Background:Variscites are a common lower class of gem on home world, much like Pearls they are a sign of status but they are not considered as prestigious as Pearls. They are made to carry out menial tasks and to fill roles such as that of housemaids and other servants. From the day they are made until the day they die, variscites are directed by their owners and it is believed that they cannot think for themselves. During the war it was not uncommon for variscites to be sent out to collect fallen gems on behalf of the home world forces. This was the task that Variscite was set to carry out on the day the war ended, as the homeworld gems retreated, Variscite fell behind, only making it to the moon warp before a flash of light engulfed the planet. It was this flash–whose origins are still unknown to her–that damaged the various warps to Earth. Because she used the warp at the last minute, this same flash caused the damage to the moon warp as well leaving Variscite with no way home as no other warp had been set up on Earth’s moon. Very suddenly Variscite was alone, there was no one to give her orders and besides the shattered gems she’d been collecting before the retreat had started, she had no company. At first she thought to contact home world, but by the time she figured out how to get to the control room of the temple, it had been long enough where she would have already been counted as a deserter or among the dead. For centuries she was alone, never found by the crystal gems due to the inaccessibility of the moon temple to them; It wasn’t until the gems came with Lion to the moon temple that Variscite seized her means of escape, watching them from the shadows and tagging along through their portal when they left. Unfortunately as she was not riding Lion when she went through, she did not arrive back at the temple with the crystal gems but instead found herself at the bottom of the ocean just off mask island. Personality: Variscite is obliging most of the time with no alliance on either side of the rebellion, this is due to the fact that she was never asked to choose a side and didn’t give it much thought until after she was stranded on the moon. Though she is obliging and naturally submissive, she has learned how to think for herself and tends to react negatively to suddenly being given orders and doesn’t like being pushed around. She genuinely cares about those around her, though she is slow to make friends, she makes up for this with a fierce sense of loyalty and a willingness to help any and all in need that she comes across. Misc: Her time alone afforded Variscite a great deal of self discovery; this was both a blessing and a curse as it not only led her to discover her weapon–a dagger like blade with a handle that wraps around ones hand–but also caused her innate hydrokinesis to dwindle. She starts to practice this skill once more when she is on Earth, but she is far from the level of skill Lapis Lazuli is shown to possess. Due to this fact she tends to rely more on her speed and agility with her blades, leaving her hydrokinesis as a secondary defense at best. She also carries the shards that she’d collected on the battle field with her, often talking to them despite their lack of complete consciousness. |
